What to wear guide: Fall Portrait Sessions
Labor Day signifies the transition into the fall season, which means fall portrait sessions and the heart-in-your-gut feeling of “ohmygoshwhatwillwewear?!” It gives you an opportunity to consider a color palette for your portraits. I highly encourage this instead of the basic idea of everyone wearing the same color shirt and pants. Yes, that deserved to be in bold. It’s that big of a deal.
Coordinating your color palette is important for two reasons. One, it allows everyone in your family to show their own personality. Your daughter loves dresses and wouldn’t be caught dead in a pair of pants. Embrace this part of her and allow it to shine through. Your son complains every time he has to wear a shirt with buttons. I don’t encourage t-shirts, or logo’d ones at that, but this might be an opportunity to encourage a reward for cooperating.
The other reason coordinating your outfits is important is for when we come to the part of the portrait process where we are designing your portraits for your home. Your portraits should integrate beautifully with your home decor — for example, if your home’s style is French Country and you’re wearing red, navy, and nautical prints — that’ll present a big disconnect when we hang a gorgeous 40×30 canvas on the wall. So, if your style leans toward neutrals with a splash of color, then the following palette might be appropriate for you!
Inspired by dark denim, plaid print and a pop of yellow, this set of outfits would blend itself really well to an urban setting or a beautiful open fields. Bold jewelry and a gorgeous yellow pleated skirt offset’s with a simple grey scarf. Dad’s looking comfortable in jeans and a dark grey button up shirt. The girls are adorable in a patterned dress with a touch of yellow with her bow or a yellow top with a brown ruffled skirt. For the little gentleman, a pair of dark denim with a yellow plaid shirt goes nicely. The whole look is cohesive and would be gorgeous with the rich colors of fall.
